Hi,

I am using the Internet Explorer 8 to access a trusted website via https.

The browser complains Certificate Error which is different from a pop-up box from my old IE 6 browser.
How should I tell IE8 that this trusted website is OK?

Internet Explorer 8 can import self-signed Secure Certificates from trusted websites via the following steps:

  1. Click on Continue to this website on the Certificate Error page

  2. Click on the Certificate Error box to show a drop-down menu.

  3. A click on the View certificate link will bring up a Certificate installation box

  4. Click on the Install Certificate button will invoke the Certificate Import Wizard

  5. Click on the Next button on the Certificate Import Wizard will bring you to more import options. Select the Automatic option.

  6. Click on the Next button will bring you to the summary page of the Certificate Import Wizard.

  7. Click on Finish and Yes buttons from the Certificate Import Wizard to have IE8 store the self-signed secure certificates.

  8. The Certificate Import Wizard will report import success. Click on the OK buttons to close the two pop-up windows.

  9. Close all your IE8 browsers and Open new IE8 browser with the https secure connection to your website. IE8 will remember the self-signed certificates and a lock icon is displayed.


Let us know if there are exceptions to this approach.
