On the FTP / Document sharing utility with remote offices, elMobile surveyed two major approaches:
- Leverage existing Document module of the SugarCRM:
- Pros -- Existing UserRole and Teams support, no extra programming needed except new Biz rules (if any);
support Office Document formats, PDF, Graphics formats, etc.;
file size adjustable by Admin; HTTPS ready
- Cons-- No directory structure, Can be Tagged by Category and Sub-Category;
should be straightforward to be linked to other modules such as Accounts or Opportunities as in the subpanels
- Install a leading Web-based Electronic Document Manage system (OpenSource http://www.knowledgetree.com/ ):
- Pros -- More UserRole permission levels (Author, Reviewer, Publisher), User Groups (teams), Workflow ready, Revision Control, Document Archive, Batch Upload, API ready for Web-based integration to other systems, etc.;
Easy migration from legacy systems;
HTTPS ready
- Cons--Beta-quality integration with SugarCRM via ZuckerDoc plug-in, provides specific linking to ANY module in the SugarCRM system, but the UI needs more work
- Traditional FTP implementation
